Celebrating a Victory for DC Cancer Patients

The opening of Cancer Support Community’s Washington, D.C., facility on Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard in Ward 8 is the culmination of a seven year effort to bring better support to underserved families and individuals on the cancer journey.  This is an important step in addressing health care inequality in our nation’s capital which, shockingly, has one of the highest cancer mortality rates in the country notwithstanding that D.C. is home to some of the top medical centers and cancer treatment facilities in the world.   Good community support systems for cancer patients and caregivers demonstrably improves cancer outcomes (and this is what CSC provides).  It was a great honor for Andrea and me to be at the Ribbon Cutting for this important new facility yesterday with CSC staff, donors, clients and community partners.   I am proud to be a CSC Board member for more than 20 years.
